Zimbabwe Monitoring SA-Born Chiefs Star

Zimbabwe national team coach Michael Nees has confirmed they are monitoring Kaizer Chiefs striker Ranga Chivaviro.

The Limpopo-born forward is eligible to represent The Warriors due to his father and has yet to be capped by Bafana Bafana.

He recently expressed his willingness to consider either country, should an opportunity avail itself and has enjoyed an impressive start to the new season.

“We have a long list of players, we’re interested in every good player, but we also have good players here,” Nees said about the striker who netted 18 goals for Marumo Gallants in 2022/23 season before a lucrative transfer to Amakhosi.

“We’ll observe everybody and when the time is right we’ll make a decision if we approach someone or not, it’s not just because someone plays at Kaizer Chiefs.

“Last year Chiefs were in the 10th spot and he had four goals I think. But yet before he had a very good time [with Marumo Gallants], we observe every player but we must also praise our players who are here, who played very good and scored three goals.

“We have a long list but it’s not just to bring in, bring in [more players], they must really add value, but that doesn’t mean I don’t rate his quality right, he had a very good time at his previous club and started this season on a very high [note], we will look [at him].”

The Warriors need just a couple of points in their final two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers when they face Kenya and Camerron to seal their place at the continental event.
