AmaZulu FC goalkeeper Richard Ofori is against the rule to ban foreign goalkeepers in South African football, for the development and promotion of local players.
Recently, SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has been quoted saying the high number of international keepers in the league is stifling development of local players while also denying them a chance to prove themselves.
This is a concept that has been championed by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), a sentiment also shared by Matsatsantsa’s keeper Ricardo Goss.

Ofori’s comments are in iDiski Times feature on Bafana-Bafana captain Ronwen Williams’ befitting global recognition in edition 177, with the former Pirates man saying foreign goalkeepers push the local guys.
The Ghanaian international cited the competition between Williams and Dennis Onyango who was the number between the sticks at Mamelodi Sundowns before ‘Ronza’s arrival, adding that it should be about who is best and not about where players come from.
“Improve other goalkeepers as well, if you can see Williams and co, the time when he was at SuperSport, and now, you will see the changes,” Ofori told iDiski Times.
“Now, he needs to step up his game because Onyango and Co are there, and it helps the country a lot. You can see now he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world and competing for the Ballon d’Or, it also tells you that sometimes you need the best to beat the best.
“If you compare him to the time when he was at SuperSport and now, you will see a different person and different personality and everything.
“It’s not a debate; you must be the best goalkeeper to play in another country.”
