Morena Taking Sundowns Chance And Ready To Compete

Mamelodi Sundowns wing-back Thapelo Morena says he’s grateful to get his chance in the starting line-up and feels their win over Golden Arrows will bode well for the upcoming tests.

Morena bagged a goal and assist in their 5-0 win in the Carling Knockout and has enjoyed an extended run in the starting line-up at the expense of Khuliso Mudau this season.

He’s also featured in 14 of the last 15 games for Bafana Bafana as he now enjoys his football at the peak of his career, aged 31.

Sundowns have four league games over the next three weeks, and potentially the Carling Knockout last-eight away tie against Kaizer Chiefs, before the next FIFA International break, which comes before the CAF  Champions League group stage commencing.

“The first half we created six, but we only scored two, and second half it was a bit different, I think it’s good going into the league and Champions League because goals win games,” Morena said to Sundowns TV after the 5-0 win.

“I think as a player, whenever you get a chance, you have to deliver, and yeah – I’m grateful I’m getting the chance and doing pretty good with the opportunity that I get, the most important thing as a full-back is to create and eventually score [goals].”

Morena will be aiming to retain his spot in the squad when Sundowns host Royal AM on Wednesday evening at Loftus Versfeld (19h30).
