Marumo Gallants striker Gabadinho Mhango has been recalled into the Malawi national team squad for the 2025 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Burundi and Burkina Faso.
Mhango was snubbed from the team by former coach Patrick Mabedi during the qualifying campaign mid-year.
The Flames face Burundi in Ivory Coast on 14 November and the Burkinabes on 18 November as they try to finish their qualifying campaign in Group L with some dignity.
Malawi is unfortunately unable to qualify for the continental showpiece in Morocco next year as they languish bottom of the group with no points after four matches, though Mhango’s experience is something the team could have benefited from.
Interim Coach Kalisto Pasuwa called up the 32-year-old as he looks to use the matches to assess his squad. The local based players are expected to assemble in the capital Lilongwe at the weekend and depart for Ivory Coast next week Monday where they will meet with the rest of the overseas-based contingent.
