AmaZulu co-head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has addressed their poor start to the season where they have lost five consecutive games in all competitions.
Usuthu sit rooted to the foot of the table after the 2-1 defeat to table-toppers Orlando Pirates in Soweto on Friday evening.
Pablo Franco Martin oversaw the first three league defeats before being fired before their 2-1 Carling Knockout loss to Stellenbosch ahead of their trip to eSgodini.
While Vilakazi helped Richards Bay retain their top-flight status in a worse situation, he’s aware of the challenge that he faces alongside Arthur Zwane.
“I think we can be worried yes, but I don’t think we need to panic at this stage in time, considering the fact that before the game we played in the Carling Knockout, we only had ten days with the team and coach Arthur,” he said when asked by iDiski Times if they are confident this crop of players can turn the corner soon.
“I think it’s work-in-progress, it’s just unfortunate that while that work is in progress, we are suffering in terms of getting that win, but we strongly believe there’s a lot of positives we can take moving forward into our next games.
“We just need to align a few areas, especially our defensive structure, teams are scoring easily and we’re finding it difficult to score goals, even though we score one, and create opportunities, we just need to balance the two, with defensive structure and trying to be clinical in front of goal, it’s work-in-progress but we don’t have time, we have to work.
“But I think with this break we’ll get now for four weeks, it will be much better for us, but we’re playing at home on Tuesday, we need to make sure we dominate and get three points, it’s very important for us.”
Usuthu will host Chippa United in the league on Tuesday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium (19h30).
