Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Steve Komphela has described their shock 1-0 defeat to Polokwane City on Sunday as a “bad day in the office”.
Having come from a resounding 5-0 success over Golden Arrows in the Carling Knockout Cup last 16, the defending champions were brought back to earth as Bulelani Nikani’s 82nd minute goal condemned them to their first Betway Premiership defeat of the season.

Komphela admits that the defeat stung, adding that he believes Sundowns had chances to score in the first half and could have capitalised on the use of their wings though it’s important for Sundowns not to dwell too much on the game as they have an opportunity to redeem themselves in midweek against Cape Town City.
“It’s not a pleasant day for us, a bad day in the office,” Komphela told Sundowns TV.
“I think first half it was a little bit open for us to take advantage. We could have maybe penetrated on the right, used more Thapelo [Morena] and find way. Second half it got too scrappy, and I thought the speed as well of moving the ball was not complimented by the dry surface.
“But there are no excuses in football. That we lost on its own is just a huge set-back and we are looking forward and it’s very important to then dust ourselves and then look to the Wednesday match.
“There is still another match to play. Let it come and we have to redeem ourselves.”
