Al Ahly secured revenge on rivals Zamalek with a 7-6 win on penalties after the game finished goalless after 120 minutes in the Egyptian Super Cup final.

Percy Tau secured his 10th trophy with the club on the evening in a fiercely competitive tie at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

The Red Devils lost out to the White Knights in the CAF Super Cup on penalties in September and showed signs of a side looking to make amends and were dominant in nearly every metric from possession to shots on target over the 120 minutes.

But the rivalry was settled in a shootout once again, which fell in favour of Marcel Koller’s side this time around.
Tau was introduced in extra-time and had a late chance to settle the game but was on the winning side, and netted his spot-kick in sudden death to secure the trophy for the fourth time since his arrival from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2021.

It marked their fourth consecutive Super Cup triumph and first in the newly expanded four-team format this season.

Overall, the Egyptian giants have won the trophy 15 times, while Zamalek, with four titles, are the second most successful side in the competition, founded in 2001.
