Ayer On Home Away From Home And Chiefs Fans Domination

SuperSport United midfielder Keanin Ayer admits there are challenges but not an excuse when they face Kaizer Chiefs in a home game packed with Amakhosi fans.

Ayer, 24, is in his first season in the Premier Soccer League after spending over a decade outside the country, first in Accra, Ghana with the Right to Dream Academy and then six seasons in Europe, with Varbergs BoIS in Sweden and then Sandefjord and Naestved BK.

Since leaving Denmark for a move to SuperSport, Ayer has featured in all seven games for the club, which has seen them win one game, one draw with five defeats, hardly what was expected under head coach Gavin Hunt and his new look squad.

The 4-0 drubbing from Chiefs in the Carling Knockout last week was followed up by a 2-0 league defeat to Orlando Pirates on Tuesday and now they return to Polokwane to host Chiefs, where the stands will likely be dominated with a sea of black and gold.

“It’s better when you have a home ground where you always play but I don’t think it should be used as an excuse, we can play anywhere but it’s sometimes how it is, we play good, we play bad,” Ayer said.

“It’s demanding to travel but we have to do this, we don’t have a home pitch that we playing at, we have to travel, there’s no other way.

“Chiefs is a big club, of course, you can expect a lot of fans and all of that. They have more fans yeah, it’s tough if they play well, the fans get behind them, they get more confidence, and you can’t do anything about it.”
