Maduka Reveals His Royal AM Mandate

Royal AM head coach John Maduka has revealed his mandate at the club which is to avoid relegation this season and finish in a respectable position.

Thwihli Thwahla are yet to register a win this campaign after playing to four draws in their opening four Betway Premiership matches as they could not make new signings following their FIFA ban as they are yet to settle Samir Nurkovic’s debt of around R12-million after the player won his appeal for alleged unfair dismissal.

At this stage, it looks as if they will finish the season without new players unless there are some new developments ahead of the January transfer window. The KwaZulu-Natal-based side also recently saw their DStv Diski Challenge team banned by the Premier Soccer League as they are unable to produce enough players to honour their fixtures.

After their 3-0 Carling Knockout Cup exit against Cape Town City, Maduka made it clear that their aim is to survive relegation this season and finish in the top eight or in a comfortable place, as they try to avoid last season’s repeat after finishing in 13th.

“For us is to make sure the team is still in a good position,” Maduka told iDiski Times.

“And again, not to find ourselves in a similar position like what happened towards the end of last season finding ourselves with too much pressure on the team.

“We want to try regardless of the situation we are in but we want to try as much as we can to avoid that.

“We must know that we are comfortable wherever it can be, top eight, we must be comfortable not to fight relegation.”
